Trehalose is a naturally occurring disaccharide noted for its ability to preserve the biological function of proteins and cell membranes during periods of stress—such as water deprivation or extreme temperature—by stabilizing the conformations of the macromolecules within a glassy matrix. This phenomenon makes use of the propensity for trehalose to interact strongly with protein functional groups and solvent water molecules via hydrogen bonding. Previously, it has been shown that trehalose sugar glasses also support long-range charge transport in oxidation-reduction reactions occurring between spatially separated donors and acceptors. Here, through the use of bulk Arrhenius DC-conductivity measurements, we infer that this anomalously high carrier mobility is due to proton hopping along a hydrogen bonding network formed by sorbed “water wires,” a process known as the Grotthuss mechanism. Additionally, we find that the apparent activation energy of the conductivity depends non-monotonically on the bias voltage. The possibility is raised for novel photovoltaic devices based on the entrapment of photosynthetic proteins within these glasses.  相似文献

In this work, the effect of various properties of materials on vacuum breakdown initiated by laser radiation is considered. Estimating calculations are performed which show that the material of the target electrode distinctly affects the minimum energy of laser radiation needed for igniting a vacuum spark. The experimental studies carried out confirm the estimating calculations, and a number of materials are revealed which can be arranged in order of increase in the energy needed for the formation of breakdown in vacuum by the impact of a laser pulse.  相似文献

Porous networks of Pt nanoparticles interlinked by bifunctional organic ligands have shown high potential as catalysts in micro-machined hydrogen gas sensors. By varying the ligand among p-phenylenediamine, benzidine, 4,4‘‘-diamino-p-terphenyl, 1,5-diaminonaphthalene, and trans-1,4-diaminocyclohexane, new variants of such networks were synthesized. Inter-particle distances within the networks, determined via transmission electron microscopy tomography, varied from 0.8 to 1.4 nm in accordance with the nominal length of the respective ligand. While stable structures with intact and coordinatively bonded diamines were formed with all ligands, aromatic diamines showed superior thermal stability. The networks exhibited mesoporous structures depending on ligand and synthesis strategy and performed well as catalysts in hydrogen gas microsensors. They demonstrate the possibility of deliberately tuning micro- and mesoporosity and thereby transport properties and steric demands by choice of the right ligand also for other applications in heterogeneous catalysis.  相似文献

The characterization involves an order embedding of Conway’s normal play games, and we call our class the universe of Guaranteed scoring games. The possibility of controlling instability waves in the mixing layer of a subsonic unexcited jet is studied. These waves can be noise sources in both free jets and jets as parts of configurations. In the study the method of experimental diagnostics of the instability waves in the near field of a jet using an azimuthal multimicrophone array is realized. The data on the near field fluctuations are used for testing the control strategy proposed by the authors. The strategy consists in narrowband sliding filtration of the original signal and the formation of a narrowband controlling action on the basis of the linear principle of signal superposition. The results of the study represent the next step toward the realization of an active control system suppressing natural instability waves in turbulent jets.  相似文献

The present paper studies a new class of problems of optimal control theory with Sturm–Liouville-type differential inclusions involving second-order linear self-adjoint differential operators. Our main goal is to derive the optimality conditions of Mayer problem for differential inclusions with initial point constraints. By using the discretization method guaranteeing transition to continuous problem, the discrete and discrete-approximation inclusions are investigated. Necessary and sufficient conditions, containing both the Euler–Lagrange and Hamiltonian-type inclusions and “transversality” conditions are derived. The idea for obtaining optimality conditions of Mayer problem is based on applying locally adjoint mappings. This approach provides several important equivalence results concerning locally adjoint mappings to Sturm–Liouville-type set-valued mappings. The result strengthens and generalizes to the problem with a second-order non-self-adjoint differential operator; a suitable choice of coefficients then transforms this operator to the desired Sturm–Liouville-type problem. In particular, if a positive-valued, scalar function specific to Sturm–Liouville differential inclusions is identically equal to one, we have immediately the optimality conditions for the second-order discrete and differential inclusions. Furthermore, practical applications of these results are demonstrated by optimization of some “linear” optimal control problems for which the Weierstrass–Pontryagin maximum condition is obtained.  相似文献
